
Mutitjulu community is home to Anangu who live within the park.
Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara speaking people refer to each other as Anangu, this broadly denotes that they come from the country surrounding Uluru and beyond.
The main languages spoken in the community are Pitjantjatjara and Yangkunytjatjara.
Dating back more than 60,000 years, Anangu cultural practices has always been a vital part of people’s lives. Tjukurpa states that the landscape was formed as their ancestral beings moved across the barren land.
To the traditional owners of the land, Uluru is incredibly sacred and spiritual, a living and breathing landscape in which their culture has always existed.
Anangu welcome visitors to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, but they appreciate their privacy while at home. Therefore, Mutitjulu is a closed community and access is by permit or permission only.
Permits and/or permission must be organised in advance through the Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation (MCAC).
