Community Safety

Mutitjulu Community Safety and Night Patrol

The Mutitjulu Community Safety Program is a new program funded by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and delivered primarily by members of the Mutitjulu Community employed by the Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation (MCAC).

The focus of Community Patrols is to work with the community, other service providers and police to improve community safety, including:

  • Children
  • Youth
  • Other vulnerable people in the communities.

The patrols also support the goals of the Remote School Attendance Strategy to ensure children are home safely at night and rested to attend school.

Community patrols are not police, however they do work with the police and other service providers to improve community safety – it’s about working together.

Patrol Teams
Patrol team has a team leader plus at least one patroller for each shift at all times and may take place via vehicle or on foot.

Our patrollers are trained to contact Police if they see:

  • violence or community unrest
  • domestic violence
  • or become aware of abuse of children
  • drugs and alcohol in the community

Training
All patrol teams receive thorough induction training prior to commencing patrols and will complete a Certificate II in Community.

All patrollers must abide by the MCAC Code of Conduct, policies and procedures.
